Head of the laboratory, PhD
The purpose of the program:
The work aims to develop scientific and practical justification and geo-information-analytical support for measures to irrigate pastures in Kazakhstan to sustain the development of domestic cattle breeding.
Program objective
- Generalizing and analyzing factual data, stock and analytical materials on national and world experience of fresh and low-mineralized groundwater use for pasture watering.
- Regional expeditionary surveys to assess the current state of development of groundwater resources for pasture irrigation in the administrative regions of Kazakhstan.
- Assessing the current and estimating the future demand for fresh and low-mineralized groundwater for irrigation of pastures of the administrative regions of Kazakhstan.
- Justification and assessment of the prospects for developing the aquifers of the rangelands of the arid zone of Kazakhstan under climatic and anthropogenic changes.
- Selection and justification of rational technological schemes of groundwater resource development in pasture territories.
- Development and creation of the database of fresh and low-mineralized groundwater perspectives for developing aquifers of pasture territories of the arid zone of Kazakhstan.
- Development and creation of a geo-information-analytical system of prospective aquifers for assessment and forecasting of their conditions of use for irrigation of pasture lands of arid zone of Kazakhstan.
- Justification and development of zoning of arid zone territory of Kazakhstan by degree of groundwater availability for pasture watering.
- Development of recommendations on watering of pasture areas for sustainable development of domestic livestock production up to 2050.
The relevance of the Program is to assess the current state and substantiate the prospective need for groundwater for irrigation of pasture territories of the administrative regions of Kazakhstan; to develop and create a database and a geoinformation and analytical system of fresh and low-mineralized (up to 5 g/l) groundwater promising for irrigation of pastures of aquifers of pasture territories of the arid zone of Kazakhstan for assessing the condition, forecasting and making management decisions on their use for irrigation of pastures; substantiation and development of zoning of Kazakhstan according to the degree of availability of groundwater for irrigation of pastures. The development of recommendations on irrigation of pasture areas until 2050 will make it possible to rationally use underground water resources of promising aquifers, depending on supply and demand, and will increase the sustainability of the development of domestic livestock production.
EXPECTED AND ACHIEVED RESULTS: 2024 ye.
Generalisation and analysis of factual data, stock, and analytical materials on national and world experience of using fresh and low-mineralised groundwater for irrigation of pasture lands have been carried out.
Regional expeditionary surveys to assess the current state of development of groundwater resources for pasture irrigation in the administrative regions of southern Kazakhstan (Kyzylorda, Turkestan, Zhambyl, Almaty, and Zhetysu) and chemical-analytical studies of groundwater samples taken during the regional expeditionary surveys were carried out.

Map of factual material and sampling points in the territory of Kyzylorda region
Estimation of the current and analysis of the future demand for fresh and low-mineralised groundwater for irrigation of pasture areas in the administrative provinces of Southern Kazakhstan (Kyzylorda, Turkestan, Zhambyl, Almaty and Zhetysu). Water consumption calculations are based on the "Average daily norm of water consumption by species of farm animals." Water consumption in litres per day for calculations is based on the maximum consumption of an individual of a given species in terms of average annual consumption.
This study aims to evaluate the potential for the development of aquifers in pasture territories of the arid zone of South Kazakhstan, taking into account the impact of climatic and anthropogenic changes.
The rational technological schemes of groundwater resources development in pasture areas of the administrative regions of South Kazakhstan (Kyzylorda, Turkestan, Zhambyl, Almaty and Zhetysu)
A database of fresh and low-mineralised groundwater aquifers with potential for development into pasture resources in arid zone pasture territories of South Kazakhstan administrative regions has been created.
A geoinformation-analytical system for assessing and forecasting the use of perspective aquifers for watering pasture territories in arid zones of administrative regions of South Kazakhstan has been developed and created.
